This weekend all eyes will be on SW19 for the Wimbledon tennis finals. Whilst British hopes of glory have ended, it’s still a perfect excuse to sip Pimm’s and munch on strawberries. If you want to watch the action it seems to me like heading out to a big screen offers the best combination of following the match and keeping the whole family entertained.
I’ve pulled together a list of family friendly places showing the Wimbledon finals in Manchester this year.
City Centre
First Street, Tony Wilson Place
Offering an events programme including live music, refreshments and family activities to celebrate the occasion, this looks like a fantastic place to watch the action.

Cafe Football at the National Football Museum
As far as I know Cafe Football is only screening the men’s final, but the Football Museum offers lots to keep everyone occupied during the match. There’s even a small soft play area for little ones.
The Oast House at Spinningfields
The big screen has returned to Spinningfields this year and Wimbledon has been on every day. With plenty of outside seating it’s a great spot to have a drink and there’s probably just about enough space for the kids to run about.

Further Afield
If you don’t want to go in to town but you fancy soaking up some tennis atmosphere, there are a few places showing the tennis on big screens outside the city as well.
The Piazza at Media City
A great spot to lounge in a deck chair during the match but keep everyone happy with all that Salford Quays has to offer before and after. Maybe pay a visit to the Blue Peter Garden while you’re there.

The Metropolitan, Didsbury
Showing the finals on their outdoor big screen, the terrace can get pretty busy but there’s bound to be a great atmosphere. You could always take the kids to play in Cavendish Road park if they’re getting restless.
Don’t forget we’ve got the tennis on our fantastic outside screen – watch with a traditional pitcher of Pimms! #Wimbledon #Didsbury pic.twitter.com/Wyf9PWemEU

The Victoria Hotel, Oldham
I don’t know anything about this venue but their Twitter account reliably informs me they are hosting a Wimbledon picnic on men’s final day. Tickets are £14.95 for adults and £7.50 for children. Give them a call on 0161 682 7254 if you’re out that way and would like more information.
